  • Fortran

    Fortran
First computer programming language invented by John Bucknaus. The earlier programming languages such as Fortran and Assembly made modern programming languages such as HTML and Javascript possible, which is how our internet and devices function.
  • Integrated Circuit

    Integrated Circuit
Jack Kilby invented the integrated circuit (IC). This breakthrough invention made it possible pack multiple transistors densely and efficiently into a single chip. We would not have smart TV’s, personal computers or any modern electronic devices if it weren’t for Kilby’s invention.
  • Unix Operating System

    Unix Operating System
Unix Operating System developed by Bell Labs. Unix was the first command based OS that could also simultaneously operate multiple applications(1). If it were not for Unix we would likely not have certain modern OS’s such as MacOS, the primary OS used by Apple.

  • Apollo 11 Moon Landing

    Apollo 11 Moon Landing
Apollo 11 moon landing by Nasa. The 1960’s ushered in a new era of space exploration & space assets and the role they would play in society and innovation. Space assets today are used to numerous critical functions such as monitoring air pollution, meteorology, and for critical military purposes.
  • Microprocessor

    Microprocessor
Microprocessor (CPU) was invented by Intel with the release of the 4004 processor. The microprocessor is instrumental to executing machine instructions and performing computational output. If you think about how far the CPU technology has come today, where billions of transistors are packed into chips as small as fingernail you realize how impressive of an invention this has been to making so many electronic devices possible.
