Sugar Act
George Grenville passed the sugar act that lowered the taxes on molasses hoping that more people would pay the lower tax instead of smugglin, but the act also let officers seize goods without going to court. The colonists believed that britain was violating their rights as English citizens. The law was later repealed -
Stamp Act
This act placed a tax on all printed material and they all had to have a certain stamp on all printed material. The colonists were outraged and boycotted British and European goods. -
Declaratory act
This law stated that Parliament had the right to tax and make decision for the colonies in all cases. -
Townshend Act
Stated that Parliament had the right to tax colonies and make desions in the colonies. The colonies believed that only their representatives had a right to tax them. -
Tea Act
This allowed the company sole control of the trade for tea in America. Colonial merchants called for a boycott against tea. -
Coercive Acts
This act was made to punish the people of Massachusetts for their resistence to British laws. Colonies sent food and clothing to support Boston. -
Quebec Act
This act set up government for Quebec, gave Quebec land west of the Appalachian Mtns, and north of the Ohio River.Colonists made their own laws.
