The Declaration was written by Thomas Jefferson. It stated a list of "wrongs" of the king and stated the liberty the the colonies should have. -
Monroe Doctrine
The Monroe Doctrine was written by James Monroe about Foreign Policy. It stated that the US would stay out of conflict with European countries, would not interfere with colonies in the western hemispere, could not colonize in the western hemosphere, and that any European nation that tried to take control in the western hemisphere would be viewed as hostile. -
Roosevelt Corollary
The Roosevelt Corollary threatened to use military force to help protect commerce in Latin America. -
World War l
WWl was a very bloody war that was fought in Europe. It was mainly fought in trenches and there were about 30 million casualties (10 million dead, 20 million wounded). The event that sperked the war was the assasination of the Austrian Archduke Fraz Ferdinand and his wife. Major forces in the war were Germany, France, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Russia. -
Sinking of the Lusitania
The British ocean liner the RMS Lusitania whick took people and goods across the Atlantic Ocean was sunk by a German torpedeo. 1,198 people died (128 Americans), and helped the US decide to enter WWl. -
Good Neighbor Policy
The Good Neighbor Policy was presented by President Franklin Roosevelt. It said that there would be friendly relations among the nations of the Western hemisphere. -
World War ll
World War ll started from conflict that was still left over from WWl. Adolf Hitler was the main man behind this with concentration camps, and the mass murder (genocide) of many groups (Jews, Gypsies). This was also known as the Holocaust. The main enemy in the war was Germany. -
Pearl Harbor Attack
The Japanese were mad because the US cut off the shipment of oil to Japan because of their ties with Nazi Germany and their latest attacks in china. So, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. -
Bombing of Hiroshima
During WWll the US dropped an atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. It was the first atomic bomb ever. A few days later, they again dropped a bomb over another city named Nagasaki. -
Truman Doctrine
The Truman Doctine stated that the United States would provide military and economic support to all nations under threat from other forces (Greese and Turkey). These nations were being threatened by communism (tried to put a stop to the cold war). -
Marshall Plan
The Marsall Plan was put forth by America to help aid Europe rebuild the economy after WWll in order to help prevent the spread of Soviet Communism. -
Korean War
The Korean War was a war between North Korea and South Korea. The United States fought for the south and China fought for the north. -
Vietnam War
A war between the communist nation North Vietnam and non-communist nation South Vietnam (with United States). -
Eisenhower Doctrine
The Eisenhower Doctrine was a speach made by president Eisenhower that called for a new a more proactive aproach in the middle east. It established the middle east as a Cold War battlefield. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
An American spy plane took photos of nuclear missile sitied in Cuba that were being built there by the Soviet Union. The missiles were pointed at the United States, and president JFK was notified immedietly. Nikita Khrushchev the leader of Russia and JFK came to an agreement that the missiles in Cuba be removed, and the US missles in Turkey would be removed. -
Operation Desert Storm
The US invaded and bombed southern Iraq. This put an end to Saddam Hussein's Republican gaurd in Kuwait. -
9/11
The 9/11 attacks were terrorist attacks in the United States. There were 4 planes hijacked, 3 buildings dammaged(World Trade Centers, Pentagon), and over 3,000 dead. -
War on Terror
The War on terror is an international military compaign that started after the attacks on 9/11. -
Operation Enduring Freedom
Operation Enduring Freedom was the name given to the war in Afganistan, and some other smaller nations. It is all under the main War on Terror. There were airstrikes on Al Queda. -
Operation Iraqui Freedom
Operation Iraqui Freedom was a mission anounced by George W. Bush that said America would go into Iraq to put an end to the dictator Saddam Hussain. -
Airstrikes on ISIS
The United States performed airstrikes in Iraq because of the terrorist group ISIS that is posing a threat to many people.
