When Columbus was still a teenager, he got a job on a merchant ship. He remained at sea until 1470. Then French privateers came along and attacked his ship, while it sailed along the Portuguese coast. His boat ended up sinking. -

Columbus’s ship was burned and he had to swim to Portuguese shore. He had made his way to Lisbon Portugal. He eventually got settled there and married Felipa Perestrello. The couple had a son, Diego around 1480. His wife died soon after and Columbus decided to move to Spain. -

In 1498, Columbus found his brothers colony was a mess and he was arrested for their crimes. Columbus was found not guilty for the crimes he was accused of. The king of Spain agreed to pay for one last voyage to America but again Columbus didn't find a way to Asia or any treasure. -

Christopher Columbus died on May 20th 1506. He died in Valladolid, Spain. He died of congestive heart failure.
