    Eastern orthodox church

    Eastern orthodox church
    On July 16, 1054, the Orthodox Church was founded. Micheal Cerularius, Patriarch of Constantinople, established it. He was later excommunicated for initiating the "Great Schism," which resulted in the formation of the two largest denominations of Christianity, the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox faiths.

    Church of England/Anglican

    Church of England/Anglican
    The Church of England/Anglican was founded in 1534 in England, United Kingdom. King Henry VIII established it. In the 1530s, Henry VIII broke ties with the Pope after the Catholic church refused to allow him to annul his marriage to his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, who bore no male heirs. Henry VIII split the Roman Catholic Church into an Anglican Church and the Roman Catholic Church. 
  • Baptist Church

    Baptist Church
    In 1612, Thomas Helwys established the first Baptist church in England. Roger Williams founded the First Baptist Church in America in Providence in 1638. The Baptists seceded from the Church of England in 1845 because they believed church membership should be voluntary and that baptism should be limited to believers. They rejected the Church of England's parish structure, in which people were "born" into the church and baptised as infants.
  • Presbyterian

    Presbyterian
    The Presbyterian Church, one of the earliest Protestant denominations, established itself in the Cleveland area in 1807 and grew rapidly. Presbyterianism arose from the teachings of John Calvin of Switzerland and John Knox of Scotland during the 16th-century Protestant Reformation. The Presbyterians were opposed to the Roman Catholic Church's hierarchy and religious teachings. In 1811, they seceded from the Church of England, ordaining their own ministers.
  • Methodist Church

    Methodist Church
    The Methodist church was founded in the United Kingdom in 1932. John Wesley established it. The Methodist Episcopal Church's General Conference split into two conferences in 1844 due to disagreements over slavery and the power of bishops in the denomination. Wesley was required to register his preachers as non-Anglicans by 1787. He, on the other hand, remained an Anglican until his death. Outside of England, Wesley saw numerous opportunities to preach the gospel.
  • Lutheran Church

    Lutheran Church
    The Lutheran Church was founded on April 26, 1847, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. C. F. W. Walther established it. This church was founded in 1521 as a result of a schism between Lutherans and Roman Catholics. It shattered when the German monk Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door of his Catholic church, denouncing the Catholic sale of indulgences (pardons for sins) and questioning papal authority.

    The Uniting Church started on 22 June 1977. It was founded by The union if the Congregational Union of Australia, Methodist Church of Australasia, and Presbyterian Church of Australia.
  • Hillsong Church

    Hillsong Church
    The Hillsong church started in 1983. Brian and Bobbie Houston founded it.
