*Last dynasty in China ruled by ethnic Han Chinese.
*One of the greatest eras of orderly government and social stability in human history.
*Long wars with the Mongols and repeated attacks on Korea by the Japanese caused the fall of the dynasty. -

The Qing Dynasty fills almost all of what is modern day China today shown in this image. -

*Manchu tried to implement their own cultural beliefs
*Han Chinese were prohibited from migrating into Manchu homeland.
*This was considered one of the largest empires in history. -
Conflict between Great Britain and China
*British Ambassador refused to perform full Kowtow for Chinese Emporer.
*Great Britian supported missionaries who encouraged western ways in China.
*China believed they were self-sufficient and did not need to trade goods with Great Britain, so they pushed away barbarian merchant ships. -

*Fought because of conflicting viewpoints on diplomatic relations, trade, and the administration of justice for foreign nationals.
*China lost both wars.
*Cixi- ruled in place of her son because he was too young and had amazing power as a woman, which was very unusual.

Taiping Rebellion
*1850-1864
*Civil War in China in which 20 million people died (one of the deadliest military conflicts in history).
*Led by Hong Xiuquan who claimed he was the younger brother of Jesus. -
Boxer Rebellion
*Led by proto-nationalists
*Opposed foreign imperialism and Christianity in China.
*The Great Powers intervened and defeated Chinese forces. -
Sui Dynasty
The picture shows how the Sui Dynasty started to expand west in the very northern part of the dynasty. -
Tang Dynasty
The Tang Dynasty established a new area in northwestern China, creating a larger dynasty than before. -
Song Dynasty
The Song Dynasty has a smaller area and is concntrated again in the east part of modern day China. -
