Charleys first battle began at the Battle of Bull Run. The first Minnesota was the last to leave the battlefield. They suffered the highest amount of deaths of all the Northern regiments. -
After Bull Run first day
Charley sees fireflies in a meadow. He realizes they're lanterns people are holding while looking for lost dead ones. -
Bull Run Second day
Charley goes to fill his canteen with stream water and he realizes that the water is pink. It is pink from all of the blood and dead people in it. -
Post Bull Run
Charley gets paid 33 dollars in gold coins. He keeps 4 dollars and sends the rest back home for his mother and brother. The Union got a new general, General George McClellan. The troops start to farm. The meaning of "farming" in this case is stealing other peoples food to eat. -
The Athens Battle
Charley meets Nelson in this battle. He sees Nelson as himself when war started. -
Charley Encounters a Rebel
Charley meets a rebel and trades with him. They trade coffee and tobacco as they both watch the the river. -

Charley has to feed the sick men by killing horses. -

They slept in rain without tents and were called out on a lot of false alarms. -

The Minnesota Volunteer Infantry moves there transports to West Point, Virginia. -
The Battle of Savage Station
They First Regimen defened the Union left flank. A sergeant is killed. -

The regiment moves their camp to Harrison's landing and President Lincoln visits. -

Getting shot in the shoulder is painful. When Charley goes to see the surgeon, he notices a pile of amputated arms and legs. He had to stack up dead bodies to block the cold wind -
After the Battle of Antietam
The regiment stayed camped on the field after battle and until burial duty. -
The Battle of Fredericksburg
They marched to capture the town of Fredericksville. The regiment went in the night and the next day battle began. -
The Battle of Chancellorville
On the 3rd they crossed the Rappahannock River into Fredericksburg where they shelled and returned to the north bank. They marchd into Uniontown, PA and were attacked by J.E.B. Stuarts cavalry at Haymarket. -
Charlie Attacks
Charley charges into battle and is hit multiple times. He thinks he is dead. -
Chrley is 21
When Charley is 21 he thinks of killing himself. He isnt thinking about a wife and kids like all the other men his age. Charley is injured bad from war and wants to kill himslef with a confederate gun. He suffers from 'soldiers heart'.
