Violence Erupted
When Philip tried to destroy Calvinism in the Netherlands was when rebellion started. Philip sent 10,000 troops to stop the rebellion. William the Silent (prince of Orange) led the resistance from the Dutch in the northern province which Philip later faced. This struggle ended with a 12-year truce in 1609. -

Edict of Nantes
Henry IV who converted to Catholicism issued the Edict of Nantes, to solve religious problems. The Edict of Nantes claimed the official religion of France was Catholicism. But also gave the Huguenots the right to worship all political privileges. The Edict or Nanted was accepted by both Catholicism and Huguenots. -
Thirty Years' War
The Thirty Years' War was also called "last of the religious wars". The war was led by the Hapsburg Holy Roman emperors. The war first involved the struggle between Catholic force. The conflict became more political as other countries became involved. -
Petition of Rights
Parliments had passed a petition called the Petition of Rights. Which limited the King's to tax. Also the ability to imprison citzens without cause and institute martial law. Charles later ingnored the petition because it put limits on his powers. -
Civil War
In England compliants grew until they went into war. The Civil war was between the Cavaliers (supportes or the king) and the Roundheads (parliamentary forces).The Parliments were proven to be victoirious because of the New Model Army of Oliver Cromwell. -
Cardinal Mazarin's death
After Louis XIV's minister died he took over supreme power. At age 23 he stated that he wanted to be the ruler of France. His control of the central policy-making machinery of government was the key to his power. Louis establisted a Royal court at Versailles which served three purposes. Louis rule came with the greates danger which came from the highest nobles and royal princes. -

James was an open catholic. James named Catholics to high position in the navy, army, universities, and in the government. Between King and Parliments religion became a conflict. -

Two Treatises of Government was writted by John Locke. John differed from Hobbes on how he doesnt like the absolute rule of one person. He believe before people lived in a state of equality and freedom not war. People had rights of liberty, proverty, and life. -
