De' Medici
The Medici family, also known as the House of Medici, first attained wealth and political power in Florence in the 13th century through its success in commerce and banking. Beginning in 1434 with the rise to power of Cosimo de’ Medici (or Cosimo the Elder), the family’s support of the arts and humanities made Florence into the cradle of the Renaissance, a cultural flowering rivaled only by that of ancient Greece. http://www.history.com/topics/medici-family -

Christian humanism spreads into northern Europe
After Petrarch, the humanism philosophy spread first through Italy, then into other parts of Europe. Martin Luther indicates the Protestant Reformation
Luther's “95 Theses,” which propounded two central beliefs—that the Bible is the central religious authority and that humans may reach salvation only by their faith and not by their deeds—was to spark the Protestant Reformation. Although these ideas had been advanced before, Martin Luther codified them at a moment in history ripe for religious reformation. Protestantism soon emerged and was shaped by Luther’s ideas. http://www.history.com/topics/martin-luther-and-the-95-theses -

Henry VIII creates the Church of England
Henry VIII established the church in England so that he would be able to divorce his first wife Catherine of Aragon, and marry another wife who could bear him a son.
