    Mier Y Teran Report
    General Manuel de Mier Y Teran led a scientific and boundary expedition into Texas. Their job was to investigate the natural resources and the Indians, to find the amount of people and attitudes of the Americans living there.They all left Mexico City in November 1827. Mier Y Teran traveled with a military escort and later got joined by a scientist, artist, and cartographer.All the illness and muddy roads delayed the trip back home, and they remained in East Texas until January 1829.

    Constitution of 1824
    Mexican government got independence from Spain and formed a government like the United States's,but it resembled more of the Spanish Constitution of 1825.The only difference was that the Mexican government let only catholics into Mexico. The three branches of government were very similar to the U.S. Government.2 Houses of Congress, 4 year terms for the President, and a Supreme Court.

    Fredonian Rebellion
    A dispute between the Mexican government and the Edwards brothers, Haden and Benjamin.Received his empresarial grant on April 14,1825 that entitled him to as many as 800 families in and around Nacogdoches in eastern Texas.He was to uphold land grants certified by the Spanish and Mexican governments of colonists already living in the area.This naturally offended the older settlers and the following year, Mexico canceled his contract. Attemped a rally but failed.
  • Guerrero Decree

    Guerrero Decree
    Abolishes slavery throughout the Republic of Mexico.Guerrero hoped that the decree would be a check on American immigration.The decree finally reached Texas on September 16th, but it wasn't published because it was a violation of the colonization laws,which stated that settlers can have security of their people and property.This news alarmed the Texans who ordered Guerrero to pull away from that law.December 2nd the governor of Texas announced that no change would be made to respect the slaves.

    Law of April 6,1830
    Created to stop the many people from immigrating from the United States to Texas,which came as a result warning the Mier Y Teran Report. The law forbade the introduction of slaves in Mexico and wanted to stop any existing empresario contracts.Stephen F. Austin protested the law to Mexican officials.Austing was able to make the Mexican government limit some laws, but like most settlers, he began to start distrusting the Mexican Government. This caused problems,battles, and disturbances.

    Conflict at Anahuac
    Col. Juan Davis Bradburn was sent to the mouth of the Trinity River with orders to build a garrison and a town.He was supposed to help the collector of customs and prevent the entrance of immigrants from the US in accord of the recently passed law of April 8,1830.There were many problems with the ship captains refusing to pay the tariffs, but the main problem was that William Travis and Patrick Jack were arrested.Settlers organized a force with 200 men. On the way holding Juan's men captive.
  • Turtle bayou resolution

    On June 12, 1832, settlers opposed to the rule of Mexican com‐
    mander John Davis Bradburn fled from Anahuac north to the
    crossing on Turtle Bayou. The Texas rebels had just learned that the Federalist army hadwon a significant victory under the
    Santa Anna. Taking advantage of this news, they sided with
    the Federalist cause by composing the Turtle Bayou Resolu
    tions.They explained that their attack was
    administration of Anastasio Bustamante and those wanting toreturn to the Constitution of 1824.

    mately fifty‐six delegates attended, including a new delegate from
    Nacogdoches, Sam Houston.
