    The event involves Henry Clay, Missouri, and congress officials. Congress tried to make everyone happy when Missouri wanted to become a state because they did not know if Missouri should be free or a slave state. Because everyone was not on the same page as to weather make it a free state or slave state. The cause was disputes between weather it should be a slave state or a free state which eventually led to future disputes over future slave or free state policies.

  • Wilmot Proviso

    Wilmot Proviso
    The Wilmot proviso involved David Wilmot and happened in 1846. David wilmot attempted to get rid of slavery in the new territory they acquired in the mexican american war. Because David Wilmot felt that slavery was wrong and should be banned in that area. The cause of the proviso was that people felt that their newly gained land should be a non slavery state and not have slaves, which eventually led to the dispute in the states which caused the Civil War over slavery.

    The Compromise of 1850 called for the admission of California as a free state, the strengthening of fugitive slave laws, popular sovernighty in Utah and New Mexico concerning the question of slavery, the abolition of slave trade in D.C., and the federal assumptions over Texa's debt.

    The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 was an act that the south put in place because they were tired of loosing their slaves (or money) when they ran away. They forced the north to return any slaves that they found, officials in the north would even send down free black African Americans just because of their skin color even if they had documentation of being a free man. The north felt very pressured by this act, and all of the African Americans felt scared and threatened.

    The event involves Harriet Beecher Stowe, slaves, and people in the US. The book was published as a way to show the slaves side of their story and how they were treated. Because slaves were constantly being treated bad and it needed to change. Many people changed their minds on their view of slavery. The cause of this book was slaves being treated unfairly and the effect eventually led to the start of the Civil War.

    The act involved Kansas, Nebraska, and Congress. It also took place in Kansas and Nebraska. Because people were unclear on Kansas and Nebraska being free or slave states and how they should vote.it could change the balance in congress for free/slave represents on the board. The cause of the act was that people wanted popular sovereignty to be how states voted on slaves but it ended up being something that went against the Missouri act and congress had to repeal it and put a new act into place.

    Dred Scott Case
    It involved Dred Scott and Sandford. A legal case in the supreme court about a free black man in the north that did not have all of his god given rights. Dred Scott wanted to have all of his rights as a free man he fought the law. The cause of the case was that Dred Scott wanted all of his rights because he was now a free black man and no longer a slave, but the US supreme court denied his trial because they still saw him as a slave with slave rights and not the rights of a free man.

    The event involved Abraham Lincoln, Douglas, and other candidates.

    It was a debate over the issues of slavery extensions in the US. It took place in Alton, Illinois. The cause was the problems and disputes slavery had caused, and it eventually led to the start of the Civil War because Southerners refused to support lincoln later on in elections.

    The event involved Abraham Lincoln, the other candidates, and the people voting. Because the US had to vote on a new president for the US. It took place in virginia. Lincoln made many big decisions while in office. The cause of the election was that the US needed a new president for office, which eventually led to the north winning and the south feeling that they had been beaten when he won.

    It involved the north and the south commissioners. The south threatened to leave the US when Lincoln took office. Because the south felt as if they had lost when Lincoln won. The cause of the secession was the south feeling as if they had lost to the north involving slaves, which led to conventions being held in each state and then within four months 7 states had joined to secede from the US.

    John Brown's Raid
    The event involved John Brown, a few of his kids, and the people in virginia. They raided a military base and killed a few men in the act. Harpers Ferry, Virginia (now West Virginia).It was just another thing that the north had done that made the south even more enraged at the north. The john brown raid was caused by john brown not feeling that the slaves were being treated right, and the effect was brown going into a town and destroying their armed guns base.
