Causes of the American Revolution

  • Treaty of Paris- 1763

    Treaty of Paris- 1763
    The Treaty of Paris signed in 1763 ended the European Seven Years' War. This treaty gave the Ohio River Valley territory to Britain. Spain got everything west of the Mississippi River.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    King George III prohibited colonists from setteling west of the Appalachian Mountains because after the war it was not cost effective for the king.
  • Suger Act

    Suger Act
    Act passed by the Parliment of Great Britain to try and raise money to pay for the war debt created by the Seven Years War.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Parliament required all legal documents, newspapers and pamphlets, all other printed paperwork to have a tax on them.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    Act passed by the Parliment of Great Britain to repeal the stamp act because boycotts were hurting the British trade. It also stated that Parliment's athority was the same in the British colonies as in England, and that laws passed by Parliment were binding to the colonies along with England.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    A group of acts ranging in purposes but mainly created for revenue from the colonies because the stamp act was repealed. The acts were passed by Parliment and named after Charles Townshend.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Colonists angered by the troops being there, a crowded started harassing a group of soldiers by throwing snowballs at them. One soldier was struck down by a snowball and fired his rifle and sparked a volley into the crowd killing five colonists.
  • Tea Act

    Act passed by the Parliment of Great Britain to try and get the surplus of tea in londons wharehouses sold to try and help out the struggling British East India Company.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    A political protest against the Tea Act of 1773 by the Sons of Liberty in Boston and was simply explained as the destruction of all the tea in Boston harbor.the Sons of Liberty destroyed more then 2,000 chests of tea worth more then 600,000 pounds.
