This is important because 12 nations promised to defend eachother if the Soviets ever attacked them stopping any chances of the Soviets launching a assault. -
Korean War
On the 25th of June 1950 The Soviet controlled North Korea sent a North Korean army to attack South Korea. The Un ordered North Korea to withdraw its troops. The Un sent a army of UN forces made up of troops from most countries in the UN (except the soviets who were boycotting Meetings) to Korea. Eventually North and South Korea agreed to stop fighting. This is important because it is one of many unofficial battles between the US and the Soviets during the Cold War. -
Suez Crisis
On July 26th 1956 the President of Egypt President Nasser decided to take over the suez canal from Britain and France. The action caused Britain, France and Isreal to attack Egypt. The soviets threatened to send missiles to support egypt. The UN ordered all foreign troops to leave Egypt. This is important because it caused the Un to from The UNEF the international police force that helped foreign arguments from turning into wars. -

On March 31st 1958 PM John Diefenbaker gets the conservatives the largest majority in percentage of seats in Canadian Federal History. This is important because it allowed John Diefenbaker to stay in office. -
The Quiet Revolution (spanned years)
In the 1960s Jean Lesage and his government promised to do two things. Improve economic and social standards of the people of Quebec and win recogniton for all French speaking people and give them control over their futures. This became known as the Quiet Revolution. This is important because it allowed Quebec to get greater recogniton and got them a greater say in their economic future. -
Cuban missile crisis
In May 1956 the Soviets in response to the missiles the US placed in Turkey placed mssiles in Cuba. These missiles if launched could hit the most major cities in the US and Canada. The US and the Un reached an agreement with the soviets where they would remove the missiles and the US wouldn't invade Cuba. This is important because it is regarded as the time where the cold war was the closest to degenerating into nuclear warfare. -

On the 15th of November 1976 the Parti Quebecois won 71 of 110 seats. For the first time, people from Quebec had elected a government dedicated to establishing an independent Quebec. This is important because it allowed Quebec to become more of a independent province. -
