Conception/ Month 1
Mother: the mother misses her menstrual period. She then experiences the symptoms of pregnancy. Child: The egg attaches to the lining of the uterus. Organs, and circulatory system begins to form. The heart begins to beat. Small bumps indicate arms and legs. -
Month 2
Mother: Breasts begin to swell. Possible nausea and fatigue. Pressure on bladder. Child: The size is 1/4 inch long. Face, eyes, ears, and limbs take shape. Bones begin to form. -
Month 3
Mother: Abdomen becomes slightly larger. Weight gain may total 2-4 pounds. Nausea, fatigue, and urination may continue. Child: It's about 1 inch long now. Nostrils, mouth, lips, teeth buds, and eyelids form. fingers and toes almost complete. All organs are developed but immature -
Trimester 2/ Month 4
Mother: Abdomen continues to grow slowly. Morning sickness is gone. Appetite increases. Child: It's about 3 inches long and 1 ounce. Can suck its thumb, swallow, hiccup, and move around. -
Month 5
Mother: Enlarged abdomen become apparent. Slight fetal movements felt. Increased size may affect posture. Child: Its 6 1/2 to 7 inches and 4-5 ounces. Hair, eyelashes, and eyebrows appear. Teeth continue to develop. Organs are maturing. Becomes more active -
Month 6
Mother: Fetal movements sensed as strong as kicks, thumps, and bumps. Weight gain at beginning of month is 10-12 pounds. Child: Its about 8-10 inches and 8-12 ounces. Fat deposits under skin but fetus appears wrinkled. Breathing movements begin. -
Trimester 3/ Month 7
Mother: Increased size Child: Its about 10-12 inches long and 1 1/2-2 pounds. Periods of activity followed by periods of rest and quiet. -
Month 8
Mother: fetal kicks may disturb the mother's rest. At the beginning of this month you will gain 18-20 pounds. Baby: Size is about 14-16 inches and 3 pounds. Weight gain continues rapidly. May react to loud noises with a reflex jerking action. Moves into a head down position. -
Month 9
Mother: "Lightening" felt as the fetus as the fetus drops into the pelvis. Breathing becomes easier. A total weight gain of 25-35 pounds. False labor pains may be experienced. Baby: It's about 17-18 inches, and 5-6 pounds. Weight gain continues until the week before birth. Skin becomes smooth as fat deposits continue. Movements decrease as the fetus has less room to move around. Acquires disease fighting antibodies from the mothers blood. Descends into pelvis, ready for birth.
