    Missouri compromise
    The missouri comprimise split the louisiana territory between free and slave states, as to not tip the balance in congress of free and slave states. This gave the north Maine as well. This contributed to the rise of the civil war because there was a large debate and fighting over the land. It created a border that split North America into two parts which could make the two sides feel seperated.

    Abolitionist Movement

    The abolitionist movement aimed to get all of the slaves imancipated and to end racial descrimination and segregation. Abolitionists started getting more ambitious which made southern slaveholders nervous and eventually lead to the civil war because everyone was on their toes.
  • Nat Turner’s Rebellion

    Nat Turner’s Rebellion
    Nat Turner organized an uprising. 55 slaves were tried and excecturd as a result. This helped start the war because it made people hopeful seeing that they are not alone in their feelings about slavery.

    Fugitive slave act/Underground railroad
    The fugitive slave act was a law that said an escaped slave would be returned to their “owner”. The underground railroad was a network of houses that helped slaves escape into the north. This helped stir the revolution because people were standing up to slavery and the south tried to make it harder to do so, which infuriates many people

    Uncle Tom's cabin was an abolitionist book. It was said to be the most popular book of the century. It was about the life of two slaves that were escaping. This helped start the civil war because it spreads awareness and made people passionate about stopping slavery

    Dred Scott's Death
    Scott tried to become free a free man in America but was told that no one with “African blood” could be free after going to the supreme court. He was eventually hanged. It stirred waters and brought the conflict to the surface. It deepened the difference in opinions between the north and the south because the ruling infuriated people.
  • John Brown and Bleeding Kansas

    John Brown and Bleeding Kansas
    Bleeding Kansas was a term used to describe the violence that was happening when the Kansas and Nebraska territiories were being debated between being slave or free states. John brown was a radical abolitionist that thought slavery should be ended with violence. He organized a raid and was eventually hung. The violence with these two (people and events) introduces violence to the conflict which eventually escalated to be the civil war.

    This was teh turning point and final spark for the war. This was significant becasue it was the final determining in whetehr th enorth or the south had morpe power.

    Southern succesion was when the country was divided gwographically netween free and slave. This eventually lead to the civil war because it created two seperate groups who had storng views and a problem with the other.
