- nostrils, mouth, lips, teeth buds, and eyelids form
- fingers and toes are almost complete
- all organs are present, although immature -
Trimester 2: Month 4
Mother:
- abdomen begins to grow
- discomfort of early pregnancy, such as morning sickness is gone
- appetite increases Baby:
- Size: 3 inches long
- 1 ounce as month begins
- Can suck thumb, swallow, hiccup, and move around
- facial features become clearer -
Trimester 2: Month 5

- Enlarged abdomen becomes apparent
- slight fetal movements felt
- increased size may begin to affect posture Baby:
- Size: 6 1/2-7 inches
- 4-5 ounces as month begins
- hair, eyelashes, and eyebrows appear
- teeth continue to develop
- organs are maturing

Trimester 2: Month 6

- fetal movements sensed as strong kicks, thumps, and bumps
- weight gain by the beginning of this month may be a total of 10-12

Mother:
- "lightening" felt as the fetus drops into the pelvis
- breathing becomes easier

Baby:

- 5-6 pounds
- weight gain continues until the week before birth
- movements decrease as the fetus has less room to move around
- acquires disease-fighting antibodies from the mother's blood
- descends into pelvis, ready for birth
