The Mughal Empire
The Mughal Empire is established, they would go on to rule India for over 300 years. There is no exact date of establishment, only the year. The 23rd of February is the birthday of the first Mughal Emperor, Babur. Also they built the Taj Majal, I thought that was interesting. Their flag is on the left. -
The British East India Company
1612 – British East India Company form a commercial treaty with the Mughal emperor which allowed them the exclusive right to reside and build factories in Surat and a few other places, in exchange for nice things from Europe. -
The Battle of Plassey
1757 – Battle of Plassey. The British East India Company wins a decisive victory over the Nawab of Bengal and the French which won them control over India for the next hundred years. -

End of the Mughal Empire
The last Mughal Emperor is deposed and his sons are killed, giving complete control of India over to the British. -
The India Act
This was an act which transferred control of India from the British East India Company to the British Crown. -

Mohandas Ghandi born.
On this day Mohandus Ghandi was born. He would eventually lead the people of India against the British Raj and win independence for India through non-violent resistance. (The photo on the left is Ghandi when he was 7.) -
Indian National Congress formed
The Indian National Congress is formed which allowed the Indian people to start dealing with their own problems and doing things for themselves but it would still be many years until they had complete control. -
India independence act
An act made by the parliament of the U.K which released India from British Control and split British India into India and Pakistan. -
Ghandi Assassinated
Ghandi was assassinated by a religious extremist for being sympathetic towards Muslims.
