In 1852, Harriet Beecher Stowe published Uncle Tom's Cabin, a novle about the evils of slavery. When Abraham Lincoln, a Northerner, was elected President in 1860, many southerners feared they would have a little say in the government. -
The Civil War
In 1861 the civil war between the Northen states and the confederacy eurpted. It lasted for years, The North, known as the Union, had more industry wealth. -
Reconstruction
Lincoln wanted the Southern states to return willingly to the union. This was Lincoln's first step in his plan for the Reconstrution, or rebulding, of the nation. -
