Trench Warfare & Treaty of Versailles
The strategy of trench warfare began in WWI. It is where one army digs 6-8ft deep trenches that extend for miles. Used to defendthemsleves from machine gunfire. When the Central Powers were defeated the Allied forces made them sign the Treaty of Versailles, which limited their resources and their trade. -
America During the Depression
Life wasn't easy for people during this time. Most people couldn't afford homes, so they built hoovervilles which were small homes made out of garbage and junk. -
WWI the Cause & Spark
The arch duke of Austria Hungry was assasinated by a person from Serbia. This caused WWI and the Alli powers, Russia, Great Britain, France, and the U.S., and the control powers, Austria Hungry, and Germany. -
Overthrowing Tsar Nicholas
Nicholas II was a Tsar and an absolute ruler of Russia. Hardships of WWI made things horrible in Russia. In 1917, the Russian Revolution happened and Nicholas II was thrown out of power. -
The Rise of Communism & Joseph Stalin
Communism started in Russia after the Tsars fell. The communists fought to establish communism and suceded after a civil war in 1920. Lennin became the dictator, or absolute ruler. Communism promised everyone an equal share of money. Many people liked the idea because they were tired of poverty under hte tsars. After Lennin died in 1924, Joseph Stalin toke over until 1953. He was brutal and set up terrible prison camps. He was responsible for more than 10 million Russians. -
The Roaring Twenties
The roaring twenties was a time of great prosperity in the U.S. People bought many new things like cars. New forms of art such as jazz music became very popular. People lived a fast passed life-style. -
WWII Nazi Germany
The Nazi Party was formed by Aldolph Hitler. He promised to make Germany great again after their defeat in WWI. -
The Great Depression
The Great Depresssion is when the United States' stock market crashed. This caused nationwide poverty. People couldn't afford their home's mortage, and so had to go and live in self-built towns called Hoovervilles, after President Hoover, who was the president at the time. -
Roosevelt's New Deal
Pressident Franklin D. Roosevelt came into office in the 1932 in the midst of the Great Depression. He purposed a solution to the Depression. He called it the "New Deal". It allowed more people to have jobs by just going and aking the government for one. -
Holocaust
The Nazi's inprisioned millions of people. He made concentration camps. The prisoners often worked to death or they were just killed. The Holocaust means "Nazi Germany's mass killing of Jewish people. -
Bombing of Pearl Harbor
In 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. -
Atomic Bombs - Japan
When Germany surrendered Japan still fought on. Harry S. Truman who was the president of the U.S. thought it would take thousands of lives to take Japan, so he decided to use the most powerful weapon at the time, the atomic bomb. Over 100,000 people were killed when the U.S. dropped the bomb on the cities of Hiroshima. Japan surrendered on Sept. 2, 1945. -
The Cold War Communism vs. Capitalism
After WWII, the U.S. and the Soviet Union were the two main superpowers. The U.S. made a policy to contain communism. -
North Korea
The Cold War resulted into so hot wars. In 1950, North Korea who are communist supporters attacked the non-communist South Korea. The U.S. sent troops to help South Korea as did other democratic countries. China supplied North Korea. The Korean War ended in a draw in 1953. -
Vietnam
In the 1960s, the U.S. tried to stop communism in Vietnam but were also unsuccessful. -
End of the Cold War
The communist rule collapsed in the Soviet Union and most of Eastern Europe resisted communism which led to communism's fall. It also ended beacuse capitalism gained more money and communism could not keep up. The Soviet Union split up to several different countries. Russia is the powerfulest one and adopted capitilism. -
