    French and Indian War
    France and Great Britain were fighting over North America. The colonists rebelled which led to the First Continental Congress in 1774. This allowed colonists to boycott and try to break away from Britain.
  • The Articles of Confederation

    The Articles of Confederation
    The Articles of Confederation established the USA as a republic. It was a weak national government and it had only one body of government, The Congress. Since the weak government didn't have that much power they decided to make it stronger by creating another document, the Constitution.
  • The Declaration of Independence was made

    The Declaration of Independence was made
    This document gave colonists freedom form the British and their rule. After the Declaration of Independence was made the colonists of the 13 colonies decided they needed a national government. They based their government off of two things, constitutionalism and republicanism.
  • The Treaty of Paris ended the war

    The Treaty of Paris ended the war
    Besides the fact that the Treaty of Paris ended the war, it helped Britain recognize the USA's independence. Great Britain and the USA mad peace and separated. They negotiated who would get what land and the rights they would have.

    The Constitution becomes supreme law of the land
    The Constitution helped the delegates create a new system of government. This new system included the three separate branches of government-legislative, judicial, and executive. It created a federal system in which each branch had power and no branch could have more power than the others.
