Baby Stages

  • month 1

    month 1
    Baby is the size of a rice grain. Tiny buds forming the arms and legs. The placenta develops by the first trimester. Blood cells began to take shape, and circulation will began.
  • Month 2

    Month 2
    The baby is about 2.54cm(1 inch) and weighs about 1/3 ounce. Toes, fingers, and eyes began to form. Each ear is starting to form as a little fold of skin in the side of the head. The neural tube is well formed. (brain, spinal cord, etc)
  • Month 3

    Month 3
    Baby is 3-4 inches and weighs 1 ounce. Baby is fully formed. Fingernails and toenails are beginning to develop and external ears are formed.
  • Month 4

    Month 4
    Baby is the size of an avocado(6 inches). Eyebrows, eyelids,eyelashes, nails, and hair are formed. Teeth and bones are becoming denser. Nervous system is starting to function. Reproductive organs and genitalia are fully developed. Babies heart beat may now be audible.
  • Month 5

    Month 5
    Baby is about 10 inches and weighs 1/2-1 pound. Hair is beginning to grow in head and lanugo, shoulders, back, and temples. The babies skin is covered with a a whitish coating called Vernix Caseosa.
  • Month 6

    Month 6
    Baby is about 12 inches and weighs 2 pounds. The skin is a reddish color, wrinkled, and veins are visible. Fingers and toes print are visible. Eyelids began to part to open eyes.
  • Month 7

    Month 7
    Baby is 14 inches and weighs 3 pounds. Hearing is fully developed and changes position frequently. Fat begins depositing under the skin.
  • Month 8

    Month 8
    Baby is 18 inches and 5 pounds. Baby Will start kicking more. The brain is developing rapidly. Internal systems are well developed, but lungs are still immature
  • Month 9

    Month 9
    Baby is about 19-20 inches and 7 pounds. Lungs are mature and reflex's are coordinate so the baby can blink, gasp, etc. Baby drops down to pelvis and prepared for labor and delivery.
