In 1492 Itallian explorer Christopher Colombus sailed under Spain to the Carribean islands. Colombus was looking for a trade route to India, but instead arrived in the Carribean islands. Colombus believed he was in the Indies, calling the people "Indians". -

First enslaved Africans arrive in the Americas
In 1511 the first enslaved Africans arrived in the West Indies from East Africa. The Africans were brought to work on plantations for Europeans. -

Cortes conqueres Aztec empire
Starting in 1519, Hernan Cortes' conquest of the Aztec empire ends. The conquest was made succesful due to allegience with Aztec enemies, superior weaponry, and disease. -

Pizzaro conquers Incan empire
Francisco Pizzaro conquers Icans. Captures Atahulpa, and sends horses to cut down messengers before message could be delievered. Atahulpa offers large sums of silver and gold for release, which the Spanish take. After aquisition of gold and sliver, Spanish murder Atahulpa. -
English found Jamestown
In 1607 the first succesful English colony was founded. Jamestown was located near modern day Virginia. -

Plymouth colony was the first Puritan colony founded. The Puritans were a group of people looking for religious freedom. -
The French and Indian War ends
The French and Indian war ends in 1763. The war was fought between the English and the conlonies, against the French and the Iraqouis confederecy. The War was over french and Iriqouis land in the area.
