Columbus sailed the ocean blue
He lead three ships from Spain. They sailed through harsh conditions and treturous storms. Columbus thought he landed in Asia, which is where he was wanting to go. He thought the people were Indians, and named the land San Salvador. -

Portugese explorer Pedro Alvarez Cabral claimed Brazil for Portugal. Portugese settles started to grow sugar, after failing to find gold or silver in this area. -

First enslaved Africans arrive in the Americas
After the very few Africans stepped off the boat from Africa and stepped on American soil, they were sold and put to work. The harsh conditions of the ships made many African Slaves sick. On these ships, there was no room for the Africans to nearly breate because of the tight living conditions. This trip was called the middle passage. Both children and parents had died. They arrived in Hispaniola. This was the begginning of a 400 year slave trade between Africa, America and Europe. -

Cortes conquers Aztec Empire
In this year, Hernando Cortes led a spanish conquest to the Americas. A huge battle began betweeen Cortes' army and the Aztec people under the rule of Montezuma. He defeats them, and becomes the ruler. -

Pizarro conquers Incan Empire
Pizzaro arrives with his army of around 200, and encountered the Incan ruler, Atahualpa. The spanish crushed the incan force and kidnapped Atahualpa. In hopes of being realisesd, Atahualpa offered a room filled with gold and anther room filled with silver to Pizzaro and his people. Pizarro accepted this, but still killed the Incan king. Pizzaro then conquered the remains of the Incan Empire. -
English found Jamestown
the inspired English people finally left england and created the colony of Jamestown. The voyage consisted of the company and the companies, 3 ships and more than 100 settlers. They claimed the land of Virginia and named it Jamestown after their king, James. -
Henry Hudson and the Dutch
In this year, the Dutch Henry Hudson sailed searching for a Northwest sea route from the Netherlands to Asia, but instead discovered the Hundson River, Hundson Bay and Hudson Strait. Here they established a fur trade with the Iriquois Indians. They created the Dutch West India Comapny and colonized the area in order to expand fur trade. These Dutch holdings in North America became known as New Netherland. -
English found Plymouth
Created by the Pilgrims, this colony which was established in 1620 became the second sucessful english settlement, following the colony of Jamestown in 1607. The Mayflower, the ship that carried 100 english men and woman, many members of the English Separist church landed anchored at plymouth rock. Many of the original survivers sadly passed away, but the survivors were able to secure peace treaties with neighboring Native American tribes. They also built a self sufficient economy. -
Marquette and Joliet and Sieur de la Salle
In 1673 French Jesuit preist Jacques Marquette and trader Louis Joliet explored the great lakes and the upper Mississippi river. Ten years later, in the early 1680's Sieur de la Salle explored the lower Mississippi river and claimed the entire river valley for France and named it Louisiana in honor of French king Louis XIV -
French and Indian War ends
This was also known as the Seven years war, since it lasted from 1756 to 1763. This was a war between England and France. It began because of France's expansion to the Ohio River valley caused conflicts with claims of British Colonies, especially Virginia. The two nations were fed up with conquering eachothers territories. Indians were also involved this.At the peace conference in 1763 the British receied Canada from the French and Florida from the Spanish. France was allowed to keep Louisiana.
