Colonization of James town
James town was one of the first towns to become a source of income. That source of income was Tobacco, a profitable cash crop. James town's importance comes from the desire to become wealthy solely off of cash crops. It is a turning point because of the amount of people that left Europe just so they could farm Tobacco and other cash crops. -
The Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was written to list the reasons the 13 colonies wanted to be separate from England and its tyrant King George. It spoke on Taxes, unalienable rights, and a limit to power. It is a very important document in history because it gave us something to base our government off of, and gave the ability to govern ourselves. It could also be a turning point because it not only benefitted us, but it gave other countries the inspiration to separate from tyrants as well. -
Louisiana Purchase
Louisiana was purchased from Napoleon of France for $15 million dollars. It gave Jackson views of expansion and imperialism because it doubled the size of the nation. This purchase is important because it created more jobs for farmers and explorers. It's a turning point because it was the beginning of Manifest Destiny, the idea of controlling the entire continent. -
The Civil War
The Civil War divided the nation between the South(pro slavery) and the North (anti slavery). The war was fought over making the decision to make slaver illegal or keep it up to the states. This is a very important event in history, because it shows a nation that directly faced a problem among their own population rather than ignoring it. This could also be considered a turning point because after the war the country took strides in equality among the races.
