Sugar Act Passed
First ever act passed by the Parliament for raising tax revenue in the colonies for the crown. Increased the duty of sugar from foreign countries. -
Stamp Act
A stamp tax put in place in 1765 to raise revenues to support the new British military force. Protests made the English repeal the act. -

Declaratory Act Passed
Passed just after the Stamp Act was repealed; reaffirmed Parliament's right to "bind the colonies in all cases whatsoever". British used this to make it clear that they would not yield. -
Townshend Acts
passed in 1767; included a light import duty on glass, white lead, paper, paint, and, most annoyingly, tea. This tax was an indirect customs duty payable at American ports. The revenues made of the act were used to pay the salaries of royal governors in America. -

Boston Massacre
In March of 1770, a crowd of sixty townspeople set upon ten redcoats, two of whom were knocked down. Without orders, the troops opened fire and killed or wounded eleven citizens. Both sides were to blame, and two of the redcoats were found guilty of manslaughter. -
Boston Tea Party
Bostonians disguised as Indians boarded the docked ships in 1773 and smashed open chests of tea, dumping it into the Boston harbor.
