Nelson Mandela, became the ANC leader, but later was arested for fighting for his right and was sent to prison for five years. During those five years he was charged with sbotage and was senence for life. -

Black protest grew stronger and more violent. An uprising in a black township of Soweto spread to other black townships and left 600 dead. -

Apartheid didnt get any international attention until the United Nations helped to draw more attention by imposing an arms embargo in Novermeber. Also, by creationing a Security Council sanctions committee in December 1977. -
The speration of races in schooling.
Schooling was sperated in all races, whites, colored, Indian, and African America. White's had much better schools than African Americans and smaller class sizes. -

In 1989, Apartheid began to loosen up on South Africa, when F.W. de Klerk replaced P.W. Botha as president. -

Nelson Mandela was relased from prison on Feb. 11, 1990. Then later in 1993 he won a Nobel Peace prize on the behalf of all the South Africas who suffered to bring peace to the land. -
