    Missouri Compromise
    The legislation declared Missouri as a slave state and Maine as a non-slave state both at the same time. The 36'30” line was established. Slavery was prohibited and allowed with the line in the south. The significance was to keep the balance between the slave states and the free states in the Union.     The abolitionist Movement was when the US should ban slavery and let all slaves free. It was a effort to end the practice of slavery in the United States. The movement was led by William Lloyd Garrison. The significance was to get rid of slavery and make all people equal.   • Nat Turner’s Rebellion

    Nat Turner’s Rebellion
    Turner and his followers started at his house killing his whole family first. Then they marched through a country in Virginia killing 55 people. He didn't get caught until 2 months after. According to The Glider Lehrman Institute Of American History, the significance is that his passage led to new laws. The laws prohibited the education, movement, and assembly of enslaved people.
  • Mexican-American War

    According to the History Channel, this war marked the first U.S. armed conflict fought on foreign soil. This was a training ground for future American leaders. The significance is that it paved the way for many new events like the expansion and California Gold Rush. It also added many new states to the U.S. Some states included were California, Texas, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and parts of Colorado and Wyoming.
  • Free Soil Party

    Free Soil Party
    The Free Soil Party was a short-lived political party in the United States. It was going on for 6 years. It merged into the Republican party which were mainly focused on the opposing of slavery into the western territories. They were against slavery and wanted it to end.   • Fugitive Slave Act

    This act said that the slaves have to be brought back to their owner, even if they were in a free state. The federal government was responsible for them and where they went. The significance of this act is that it was legal to arrest any slave that decided to run away. The slaves were allowed to return to their owners.   • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    Tom was a slave that was treated very badly. He was sold multiple times and faced physical brutality by his owners. Even though he was treated unfairly he was still powerful. The significance is that it focused on the point of the ban of slavery. The goal of this was trying end slavery and make everyone treated fairly. blackpast.org

  • Kansas Nebraska Act

    It opened new lands for settlement. It had the effect of revoking the Missouri Compromise of 1820 by allowing settlers that were white do see if slavery should be allowed or not. It was trying to see what states should have slaves and shouldn't. The significance is that it made 2 new territories in the U.S. The settlers of the terrorites could decided wither states should allow slavery. senate.gov
  • Battle of Fort Sumter

    The Confederate States attacked the U.S. military garrison. This took place in South Carolina. Two days later the fort surrendered and attacked. The significance is that it marked the beginning of the Civil War. This war lasted for 4 years. education.nationalgeographic.org

    This was a movement practice to end slavery. It divided a lot of the country with peoples opinions. Some arguments have very serious and some even died. It changed the political climate of the country. In the end they were joined together and most got along history.com
