Anne exlpains that Dussel has arrived in the "Secret Annexe". Also, the Van Dans give the Franks a copy of the "Prospectus and Guide to the Secret Annexe". It contanis rules and it is like an add for an hotel. -

On November 18, 1942, the Allies take the city of Sidi Nsir away from the Axis. -
Operation Uranus
The Soviets push forward a two-part offensive: Operation Uranus. It involves to go to the north of Stalingrad and break the Romanian-held defenses (the Romanians were on the side of the Axis from 1941-1944). -
Thursday, 19 November, 1942
Mr. Dussel becomes Anne’s roommate. She says the he is "slow to catch on" to the rules. Also, he tells them what is going on in the "outside" world. They are shocked to hear that friends disapeared, -
Friday, November 20, 1942
Anne feels like she can’t be happy when so many people in the world are suffering. Also, she feels lonely and she misses her friends. Further more, Miep doesn't wnat to tell the hiders any more news because she says the it will make Ms. Van Dan and Ms. Frank cry. -
Medjez al Bab is now in the allie's possession
The city of Medjez el Bab falls into the hands of the allies. -
Saturday, 28 November, 1942
The members of the "Secret Annexe" have used to much electricity. The result is that the power is going to be cut off for two weeks. Also, Anne wishes she could behave differently than she does. Further more, she says that Mr. Van Dan's favorite passtime is the give her sermons on on proper manners and behavior. This is hard for her to deal with. -
6th Army trapped in Stalingrad
German General Paulus and his 6th army are trapped in the city of Stalingrad thanks to the Soviets and Operation Uranus. -
Monday, December 7, 1942
The members of the "Secret Annexe" celebrate Hanukkah and St. Nicholas Day. Everyone gets little gifts. -
Thursday, December 10, 1942
Mr. van Daan proves his usefulness when they get a lot of meat and he turns it into sausage. Also, Mrs. van Daan thinks she has broken a rib, to which Anne says, "that’s what happens when old ladies do such stupid exercises to get rid of their fat behinds!". Further more, Anne doesn’t seem to think that Mr. Dussel is such a great dentist because she compares him to a "quack" from the Middle Ages and calls Mrs. van Daan his "first victim".
