  • The Fredonian Rebellion

    Benjamin Edwards led 15-30 armed settlers to Nacogdoches. They took over the Old Stone Fort and said they had created the Republic of Fredonia.

    After Fredonia Mex. gov’t sent Gen. Mier y Teran to East Texas to investigate Am. influence there.
  • The Law of April 6, 1830

    Texans were alarmed. This was turning point in relations between the colonists and Mexican govt. Serious damage had been done. Neither side trusted the other.
  • Conflict of Anahauc

    Commander at Anahauc strictly enforced Mex. laws. Colonists accused him of taking supplies & hiding runaway slaves. His collection of customs duties angered colonists who had to go long way to do paperwork. Final blow came when he arrested two lawyers for interfering in his efforts.
  • Turtle Bayou Resolution

    While waiting for cannon colonists adopted resolutions.

    Denied rebelling against Mex. authority
    Insisted they supported Santa Anna who was leading a revolt against the Centralist pres. in Mex.
  • Conventions of 1832 & 1833

    Delegates met to discuss changes needed in TX. S. F. Austin elected president of convention. Wrote resolutions and requests for the Mexican gov’t. These resolutions were never delivered to Mexico City
  • The Consultation

    After a disturbance near Anahauc Gen. Cos (Santa Anna’s brother-in-law and commander. of Mexican army in Coahuila) demanded those involved be arrested. Texans didn’t want to turn friends over to a Mexican military court so they called for a convention to discuss situation.
