On the 26th of May 1948 the Apartheid laws, which was used to seperate races from one another is introduced into South Africa when the National Party win the elections. -

Mandela Arrested
On the 5 of December 1956 Nelson Mandela is arrested for high treason but was aquitted after 4 years. -
Sharpville Masacre
On the 21st of March 1960 between 5,000 and 8,000 indiginous workers converged on the local police department demanding to be arrested. The police tried to intimidate the crowd by using force but after a few hours gave up and opened fire killing 69 people and leaving 180 injured. -
Mandela goes to jail.
On the 12th of June 1964 Nelson Mandela is arrested for life for sabotage and conspiracy of trying to overthrow the government through his underground military organisation called Spear of the Nation. -
Soweto Uprising Riots
The Soweto Uprising which occured on the 16 of June 1976 was when between 8,000 and 10,000 students left school and joined togther to protest that they should be taught in African instead of English.
The police blocked the riots and the students were told to go home. Those students who attempted to attack the police were either killed or injured. -
Mandela's release
On the 11th of February 1990 Nelson Mandela is released from jail after 27 years by President FW De Klerk. This begins the slow dissasemble of the Apartheid Laws. -
Nobel Peace Prize
On the 10th of December 1993 Nelson Mandela is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize jointly with President FW De Klerk. -
Rights to Vote
On the 27th April 1994 all races are given the right to vote in the elections. These elections signify the end of Apartheid.
