French and Indian War
French and Indian War was when the English fought against the Native Americans and the French troops. The people who acually fought in the war were not England itself but the colonists in North America. -
Proclamation
King George III issued proclmation limiting the lands that the Americans can used. The Americans were upset by this because they fought for this land, but they can't use it. -
Sugar Act
The Sugar Act is a law passed by the English Parliament to tax goods such as molasses and sugar that were imported to America. The English wanted the Americans to pay for the French and Indian War. This also angered the Americans. -
Stamp Acts
The Stamp Act is a law that placed tax on all legal documents in America. The American started the Sons of Liberty and burned a lot of documents and also won't buy them. -
Quartering Act
This act states that the English troops stationed in America must be taken care of by the Americans. This includes feeding them, providing shelter, and other things. -
End of Stamp Act
Due to the hugh amount of money lost caused by the boycott, and the Sons of Liberty, the English government repealed this act finally. The Americans were happy. -
Townshend Acts
This is another law passed by the English parliament to tax lead, tea, glass, paper, and paint. It also allows the British soldiers to search colonists' home without the owners' permission. Again, the Americans responded with the Sons of Liberty and another boycott. -
Boston Massacre and the End of the Townshend Acts
The Boston Massacre was when English soldiers were provoked by angry Americans and ended up killing 5 Americans, the colonist didn't like this event at all. These Americans were angry because of the Townshend Acts, but coincidentaly the Townshend Acts was repealed on the same day, but news were too late to reach America. -
Tea Act
The Tea Act states that tax must be paid for tea and tea must be brought from England. This greatly upset the Americans. -
Boston Tea Party and the Intolerable Act
This was one of the colonists' reactions to the Tea Act. Colonists disguised as Native Americans boarded an English ship and poured all their tea into the cold sea.This event was followed by the Intolerable Act which states that nothing can be imported and exported out of America until the citizens pay for the tea lost in the Boston Tea Party. -
Start of the Revolutionary War
Because of the trouble the British has caused for the Americans, the colonists found that Independence is their only choice. The first shot of the Revolutionary War was shot in Lexington.
