  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    1756-1763
    British soldiers fought against French soldiers and Native Americans. Native Americans joined in the battle against the British because they were afraid the British would take over their land.

    The Sugar Act was passed in 1764. The British placed a tax on sugar, wine, and other important things. The British did this because they wanted more money; the British wanted this money to help provide more security for the colonies. The security was expensive because of the Indians and fights with foreign powers. The British also hoped that the act would force colonists to sell their goods to Britain as opposed to selling to other countries.

    The Stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament on March 22, 1765. The new tax was imposed on all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used.     The Boston Massacre was the killing of five colonists by British regulars on March 5, 1770. It was the culmination of tensions in the American colonies that had been growing since Royal troops first appeared in Massachusetts in October 1768 to enforce the heavy tax burden imposed by the Townshend Acts.

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    The Battle of Lexington and Concord really showed England that they weren’t going to go down without a fight. In this battle the British militia had secret orders to steal and destroy Massachusetts military supplies. The British army of 700 were defeated by 500 American soldiers.
  • Declaration of Independence Adopted by Congress

    Declaration of Independence Adopted by Congress
    This was the event where officials brought the idea of a Declaration of Independence. This idea was accepted by congress and separated the 13 American colonies from England
  • Constitution Signed!

    Constitution Signed!
    On September 17, 1787 the constitution was signed by 38 of 41 delegates. This finalized the Declaration of Independence.
