Jefferson Writes The DOI
June of 1776 Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. Declaration of Independence explains why the colonies should break away from Britain. It says that people have rights that cannot be taken away, lists the complaints against the king, and argues that the colonies have to be free to protect the colonists' rights. At the bottom of the document, the delegates signed their names. The main person was Jefferson. All 13 states signed it. It was signed in Pennsylvania, July 4, 1776. -
Battle of Trenton and New Jersey
The Continental Army won these two battles. It's significant because it boosted their confidence and encouraged re-enlistment into the army. -
American and British Battle of Saratoga
The Battle of Saratoga happened in September and October 1777. It was during the second year of the American Revolution. It included two important battles. The two battles were fought eighteen days apart. It was a victory for the Continental Army and a significant point in the Revolutionary War. It was like a really big Uno Reverse card. -
Howe Captures Philadephia
A big campaign was for Britain to gain control of Philadelphia. Washington put 11 thousand men between Howe and Philadelphia. The Continental Army attacked the British this gave us confidence to win the ar. -
Congress Prohibits Enslaved People Imported To The United States
Jefferson was one of the first statesmen to actually put in the effort to end slavery. In 1778 he introduced a Virginia law prohibiting the importation of enslaved Africans, so that is why we love Jefferson. He even proposed to ban slavery. -

Winter at Valley Forge
In the winter, Washington marched into these winter quarters at Valley Forge. They were suffering from cold, hunger, and fatigue and sickness. They went to Vally Forge because the British were occupying Philadelphia at the time. The continental Army needed to keep an eye on them. -
State Constitutions
Each state gets there own constitution. Yay! State constitutions are important because the purpose of it is to set forth the power of the State government to take care of taxes and collect the debt. -
Spain Declares war on Great Britain
Spain declared war on Britain as an ally of the American colonies. Spain's King Charles III would not consent to the treaty of alliance with the US. -
John Paul Jones & Serapis
John took command and sailed around the British Isles. The Serapis was a 50 gunship that outgunned the other opposing commander. -
British forces capture Charles Town
Worst defeat for the Americans. A major general and a liutenet and the army of 10,000 surrendered. -
British surrender at Yorktown
The British surrendered, Even 5 years after declaring independence for America we were still fighting for freedom. The British just didn't show up. -

Treaty of Paris
The Treaty of Paris was signed on September, 3, 2019. This ended the American Revolution. -
Spain closed lower Mississippi River to American Western Settlers
The treaty gave the Mississippi River was the western boundary of the United States and also confirmed Americans the right of free navigation. In June 1784 Spain closed the navigation of the Mississippi to Americans. Westerners were outraged and threatened war against Spain. -
The Ordinance of 1785
When the states were divided up into sections of 620 acres and you had to buy 1 square mile of land. This developed the Articles of Confederation to plan our government. Western lands were divided into town were xis miles long and six likes wide. -
The North West Ordinance
The Northwest Ordinance was selected on July 13, 1787, by the Confederation Congress. It was a government for the Northwest Territory, provided a method for admitting new states to the Union from the territory, and listed a bill of rights guaranteed in the territory. -

Signing of the Constitution
The Constitution of the US establishes America's governments and fundamental laws and for certain basic rights for its citizens, It was signed in Philadelphia. Only 12 states signed the constitution because Rhode Islands declined to send delegates. -
