  • proclamation of 1763

    -Put in place after the french/indian war in America
    -Was put in place to apologize to the indians for taking their land.
    -It stopped colonial expansion westward.

  • Sugar Act

    -Passed April 5 1764
    -Replaced the Molasses act
    -Put in place to end the sugar smuggling ring
    -strong customs reinforcement

  • Quartering Act

    -Passed March 24, 1765
    -Law put in place to allow british soldiers to enter and lodge in barracks provided by the colonies
    -If barracks couldn't be provided, local inns, livery stables and ale houses were to be used
    -New York fought against this act and as a punishment the parliament put in place the New York Restraining Act. This act didn't allow colony to sign any legislations until they agreed with the Quartering Act.

  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    -Started in 1765
    -Americans had to pay for printed materials
    -Included newspapers, magazines and legal documents

  • Townshend Acts

    -Passed in 1767
    -Named after Chancellor Charles Townshend
    -put in place to raise revenue from the colonies to help pay for administration and protection of British North America
    -Placed taxes on lead, paint, paper, glass and tea
    -The colonists were mad because they had no representation in the parliament and felt cheated because they couldn't fight any taxes being imposed on them. Choices Reading
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    -March 5, 1770
    -After the townshend Act was passed patriots attacked customs officers and burned down shops in protest.
    -Britain stationed soldiers to mediate the fights in Boston.
    -Crispus Attucks was a man of african and native decent who was killed during the massacre. He was the first american killed in the civil war. choices reading

    • December 16, 1773 -Started because of Tea Act -Colonists were mad because they felt more restricted than ever. -The colonies had to buy tea from the colonies at a high price now. -The colonists decided to dump all the tea into the ocean. -Britain decided that the colonies needed to be punished.

    Intolerable Acts
    -Passed in 1774
    -They were called the Intolerable Acts because the patriots couldn't tolerate these new laws the British kept passing.
    -These acts were passed as punishment for the Boston Party.
    -The five acts of the law were; The Boston Port Act, Massachusetts Government Act, Administration of Justice Act, Quartering Act, and the Quebec Act.
