First Continental Congress
All but one of the colonies met to discuss the Intolerable acts and make sure the British understood hwo they felt about the new laws. They agreed to meet again in 1775 if their complaints weren't addressed -
Second Continental Congress
Created the Olive Branch petition which assured that the colonists wanted peace and asked him to protect the colonist' rights which he rejected. Battles of Lexington & Concord
The Brtiish were coming to seize wapons from the Massachusetts militia and arrest their leaders. Minuteman and the British had shots fired at Lexington which then the British went to Concord and had heavy losses so they later surrendered back to Boston -
Capture of Ft. Ticonderoga
The surrender of the British Ft. Ticonderoga seized by the Green Mountain Boys which were led by the Connecticut militia captain Benedict Arnold and Ethan Allen from Vermont took the fort by surprise. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
Boston militia Colonel William Prescott faced off British soldiers on Breed's Hill where British suffered heavy losses but finally Americans ran out of gunpowder and had to retreat. -
Common Sense Published
A writer named Thomas Paine published a book titled Common Sense which promoted independence from Great Britain in bold but simple language. -
