Navigation Act
The Navigation Acts were laws passed by England to maintain control over colonial trade. The acts made colonist buy English goods and limited trade between the colonies and other countries. -
Treaty of Paris of 1763
The document that ended the war between the British and French over the Ohio River Valley. This treaty ended French power in North America and expanded British Territory and increased debt. -
Proclamation Act of 1763
An act stating that no one can live west of the Appalachian Mountains because the cost to protect people past the Mountains was too much. This act was made because the debt was too much to defend the people living west of the Mountains and no one wanted to pay anymore after the war. -
Sugar Act of 1764
This was caused because the sugar and molasses act of 1733 was about to expire. It lowered the cost of sugar from 6 pence to 3 pence so fewer people would go around the tax like before. This was enforced strictly and had harsh punishments for smugglers. -
Writs Of Assistance of 1765
The writs of assistance were to counter the colonist smuggling goods. This act lets soldiers search any property for stolen goods. It cracked down on smugglers. -
Stamp Act of 1765
The British aren't making enough to pay for the war so they found something that effects every colonist and they taxed it. It required colonist to buy stamps and stamp marks from England on every piece of legal paper and other printed paper. It taxes playing cards, letters, contracts, wills, diplomas, and newspapers. This affected everyone. -
Quartering Acts of 1765
The British wanted to make sure the colonist are doing what they are told, so they send over 10,000 British troops to the colonies. They are able to live in any civilians house they want and the colonist has to provide them with supplies and food. You have to take them if they are at your door. -

Stamp Act Congress
The Stamp Act Congress petitions against the king to get rid of the stamp act and they also boycott British goods. There were many protests and some were violent. This is also when the Sons Of Liberty were created. -
Declaratory Act
This was an act that was made the reassure the colonies who was the boss. It stated that the British government has supreme authority to govern the colonies. Most Americans ignored this but it started the struggle of who would control the colonies. -
Townshend Acts
Charles Townshend wanted to raise taxes in the colonies. He taxed items before they came in hopes it would make the colonist less mad. He also said that no meetings or assemblies could be made until every troop in NY is housed by New Yorkers. They used Writs of Assistance to search for smuggled goods without tax. They taxed tea, paper, lead, glass, and paint. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre happened when a mob gathered around a guard that was defending a British customs location. The mob got out of hand and the guard called for backup when violence broke out and the guards shot and killed 4 instantly and another one died a few days later. -
Tea Act
The Tea Act let the East India Trading company not go out of business. It granted the British East India Company's tea a monopoly on tea sales in the American colonies. It reduced the price of tea in the colonies. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was the rebellion from Boston. All the things the British did, caused them to rebel. 342 crates of tea were thrown into the ocean because of the Tea Act and taxation without representation. -

Coercive Acts
These acts were a harsh punishment in a result of the Boston Tea Party. The acts were:
Boston Port Act: This closed the Boston Port until the tea was paid for.
Quartering Act: It said that any person asked to would have to house a soldier.
Massachusetts Gov. Act: The purpose of this was to control the local government and to end the obstruction and the execution of British laws.
Administration of Justice Act: This stated that any British official could be tried in England for trial. -
First Continental Congress
All states met besides Georgia. It was a meeting with the purpose to unite the colonies and rebel against the British. They voted to ban all trade with the British until the intolerable acts were repealed. They wanted buildings for the militia for the colonies and they planted seeds for the future independent government. They lost the vote to unite colonies. They did not declate independance but wanted colonial rights. -
Battles of Lexington and Concord
The first battle of Lexington and Concord was when around 70 colonists met against around 700 British Soldiers. The British whooped the colonist in that fight but the colonist retreated and eventually came back. They upped their army to 4,000 people and they sniped the British on their march back to Boston. Only 95 people in the militia died while 273 British soldiers died. -
Second Continental Congress Meet
This was the second meet. They agreed to make an official army and have George Washington as the General. They also authorized the printing of money to pay soldiers. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
The Minutemen take a hill outside Boston called Bunker Hill. With 2200 Minutemen and not much ammo, the militia was told not to fire unless they see the whites of the enemies eyes. They shot at once and the British retrieved and they kept coming back in waves. The British eventually win but they lost 2x more men than the Minutemen. -
Olive Branch Petition
This document asked the King to restore peace in the colonies. He harshly rejects the petition and instead responds with mercenary German soldiers, blocking American ships, and he also masters the colonies. -
Common Sense
Common Sense was a pamphlet created by Thomas Paine. It said that all ties should be cut with Britain. It scorned the idea that King ruled by the will of God. It also said that all monarchies were corrupt and it made "Common Sense" to leave England. It was very effective. -
Declaration of Independance
This is an official document that dissolves any connection with Britain. It was signed and sent, but if anything goes wrong and Britain wins it back, anyone who signed it will be executed for treason. Even though they became independent, almost everyone who signed faced harsh consequences.
