French and Indian War
The war ended in 1763. The French and British argued over the control of the Ohio Valley. Washington attacked the French fort named Fort Duquesne. George Washington’s troops were forced to surrender. -
Proclamation of 1763
After winning the Seven Years War Britain gained land in North America. In 1763 it issued the Royal Proclamation. This forbid colonists from settling west of Appalachia. -
Stamp Act
Great Britain faced a massive debt after the Seven Year War and needed to raise taxes to pay it off. So they said that you needed to purchase a stamp for all paper products to be official. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was a street fight between British soldiers and about 50 colonists. -
Tea Act
Even after the repeal of the Stamp Act. The taxes on tea and sugar would remain. -
Boston Tea Party
Colonists were mad that they were still being taxed. These angry Bostonians rebelled and dumped 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor. -
Intolerable Acts
After the destruction of 342 chests of tea, the British government was fed up with the colonies rebelling and set some rules known as the Intolerable Acts. -
