    Nome, Alaska had a massive diphtheria outbreak in 1925 that was killing all the children in the town. Due to the supply of the cure being small and expired it made curing the children impossible. So multiple teams of dog sledders brought the serum to Nome, with the last team being led by Balto the dog.
