    On this day the first skirmish/battle of the civil war was fought at Fort Sumter, and ended up also being the first confederate victory. The only casualties during the battle was a confederate horse.
  • First Battle of Bull Run

    First Battle of Bull Run
    This was the first major battle of the civil war that showed that the war wasn’t going to be so easy. This was also a southern victory.
  • Battle of Antietam

    Battle of Antietam
    This major battle was so important because it gave President Lincoln the opportunity to issue out the Emancipation Proclamation. Although the Northern forces claimed victory, the losses were so great on both sides that a draw would be more acceptable. The reason it isn’t considered one is because the union did hold the field.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    Battle of Gettysburg
    These were the single most deadliest days of the war. More people died in this battle then the rest of all the conficts the U.S. has been involved with. This ended in a Northern victory although General Meade was criticized for not pursuing the limping southern forces. Note: This battle was fought from July 1st till the 3rd
