    The Amercan Revolution began on April 19, 1775, and ended on September 3,1783.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    Thomas Jefferson was the president who bought the Louisiana Territory in 1803. Jefferson also sent Lewis and Clark to explore the Louisiana Territory in 1804. The United States bought the land from France for a great price of $15 Million which is 4 cents an acre.
  • War of 1812

    War of 1812
    The War of 1812 lasted from 1812 to 1815. America went to war agaist Great Britain. There were a few reasons America wanted to go to war. The British would take American sailors and make them work for them, this was know as impressment. The British stayed in their forts after the American Revolution when the Treaty of Paris (1783).
  • Oregon Trail

    Oregon Trail
    The Oregon Trail did not start to become a popular route until 1843. The Oregon Territory was large and both the United States and Great Britain wanted the land. James Polk was the president at the time who said "all of Oregon on none" but he didn't want to fight a war for the land, so he came up with a compromise and set the border between what is today Canada and the United States.

    The Mexican American War was the first war fought on another country's soil. The war made Mexico lose one third of it's territory which gave us the states of California, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico.
  • California Gold Rush

    California Gold Rush
    The California Gold Rush was started in January, 1848 when James Wilson Marshall was building a water-powered saw mill and he found flakes of gold in the river. 30,000 people gathered at launch points in 1849.
