American Civil War
The American Civil War started in 1861 and ended in 1865. It occurred in places in the USA. The civil war was fought between the Union State (Northern State) and the state of the Confederacy (southern State). Their were many causes of the Civil war including differences between the north and South states on their ideas of slavery, trade, tariffs and state rights. -
Jim Crows Law
The Jim Crow Law was a laws were state and local laws that enforced racial segregation on black and white in the Southern United States. It happened between the 1877 and the mid-1960's. It was a way of life back then. It started between the end of Reconstruction in 1877 and the beginning of the civil rights movement in the 1950's. -
Wright Bros First Powered Flight
The 2 brothers Wilbur and Orville Write called the Write Bros made 4 brief flights at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina with their first powered aircraft. But, later on they found out that they had much to do to perfect their invention. The road to the first flight is what inspired the brothers to do what they did. -
The Great Depression
The Great depression was the a time of great economic crisis during the 1930's. During this time, many people didn't have jobs, food and was homeless. It spread quickly over the world after starting in the US. It was caused by economic problems like Black Thursday where 16 million shares of stock were sold by panicking investors, who had lost faith in the American economy. -
Black Tuesday, start of Great Depression
Black Tuesday was a stock market crash when panicked sellers traded nearly 16 million shares on the New York Stock Exchange (four times the normal volume at the time), and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell -12%. It is often cited as the starting of the great depression. It took place in New York. -
World War 2
World War 2 was a global war and it happened on Sept.1 1939 to Sep.2 1945. It was fought between 2 groups of countries. Germany, Italy, and Japan fought together while their allies including Britain, France, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, the soviet Union, China and the United States. all fought against them. It happened because of a lot of reasons but it all started approx. 20 years before the real war actually started. -
Rosa Parks refuses to give up her seat on a public bus.
The reason why Rosa Parks did what she did was because she believed that all humans no matter what colour of skin they have are equal. It happened in Montgomery, Alabama on December 1st 1941. She got arrested and went to jail. -
V-J day
The VJ day is the day where imperial Japan surrendered on world war 2 ending the war. It occurred in China on Sunday Sept.3. Japan's formal surrender took place aboard the U.S.S. Missouri, anchored in Tokyo Bay. -
Cold War
The Cold War was a long period of tension between the democracies of the Western World and the communist countries of Eastern Europe. The west was led by the United States and eastern Europe was led by the soviet union. These two countries were known as superpowers. The creation of NATO helped prevent the Cold War from becoming a hot war that would have led the world to nuclear Armageddon. -
Civil Rights Movement
The Civil Rights Movement was a fight for racial equality that took place for over 100 years after the Civil War. It happened in the South and was organized by civil rights leaders such as A. Philip Randolph, Bayard Rustin and Martin Luther King Jr.The whole Civil Rights Movement began when Rosa Parks, an African-American woman, was arrested for refusing to move to the back of the bus in Montgomery Alabama.
