Pearl harbor
The significance of pearl harbor is that it is what got us into WW2 and it is also why we developed nukes and the strategies that were put to use in the pacific theater such as island hopping. -
The us adopts the flamethrower
The Us adopted the flame thrower in 1942 as part of its specialty weapons. They were used on D-day and in Korea and Vietnam before they were deemed unhuman and better forms of weapons were developed.
They were mostly used to destroy tanks clear bunkers and burn out the jungle in the pacific theater and Korea and Vietnam. -
The US begins their island hopping campaign in the pacific theater
Island hopping is a tactic that the US developed and used in WW2 in order to help create naval superiority and make establishing blockades easier.
The blockades were used to cut off supply lines to major bases and ilands to make taking them easier. -
Hiroshima and nagasaki
The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were done in order to end the very end of WW2 (the pacific theater). It could have ended without the bombs but many many lives would have been lost.
During the cold war the main difference here was that there were no nuclear weapons used there were only threats because of MAD (mutually assured destruction). MAD is where if they launch nukes then we will nuke them back and no one wins. -

The reason that we go in into the cold war was that we were trying to "contain communism" and keep it from spreading further. This was shortly after WW2 and the berlin wall was erected. -

The Cuban missile crisis was caused by the soviet union placing ICBMs in Cuba. which was in striking distance of most major cities in the US. The US then proceeded to blockade Cuba from all coming and going sea traffic demanding that the soviets take all nucellar weapons off of Cuba and none ever be returned. -
