The Magna Carta is an English charter. It was first issued in the year 1215. It was the first document to be forced on an English King. It was to try to limit his powers by law. -
Mayflower Compact
The Mayflower Compact was written by colinists. It was also known as the first governing document in Plymouth Colony. Many pilgrims crossed the Atlantic on the Mayflower ship. -

The Two Treatises of Government was published by John Locke in 1689. John Locke was unsatified with his book because it had so many errors in it. The book talks about what John Locke had hoped to achieve. The two treatise of government is an opinion about government. It outlines the role of monarchy. -

It is a re-statement of the Declaration of Right. It sets out the rights and puts limits on the powers of sovereign. It also marks a fundamental milestone of the English Society. -

The Spirit of Laws was first published by Charles de Secondat Baron de Montesquieu in 1748. Montesqueiu's works were mainly about cencorship. This book was also written in many different languages. -

Its a device to explain the appropriate relationship between indiviuals and government It is known as ,The Principles of Political Right. The Social Contract was written by Jean Jacques Rousseau. -
Continential Congress
The Congress met in 1774 and it ended in 1789. It was split up into three incarnations. The Continential Congress also brought together the representatives from each colony. -
Common Sense
The Common Sense pamphlet was written by Thomas Paine. Thomas Paine published it on January 10,1776. It had the largest sale on a book in American history. It explained the argument for freedom. He relied on biblical references to share his side of the story with the people. -
Articles of Confederation
The Articles of Confederation was the first written plan of government or constitution. It wasnt formally ratified until 1781. Although people complained it was too weak and so they replaced it with the Constitution in 1789. -
