Knapping
Knapping was the first form of "technology" used by our early ancestors to create tools and/or weapons. Knapping is the practice of hitting harder rocks against softer rocks to create said tools/weapons, today known as "flinting" or "flintknapping". This video shows what it might would have looked like used by our early ancestors and gives insight into how it can still be used today as a form of therepy or education: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oNe39yAYgk] -
Project RAND
In 1945, the United States pursued its international interests through creating and maintaining international economic institutions, bilateral and regional security organizations, and liberal political norms—mechanisms often referred to as the international order. This meant the military had the ability to predict their own, as well as other countries', abilities. -
Moore's Law
Moore's law is the observation that the number of transistors in a dense integrated circuit doubles about every two years. Moore's law is an observation and projection of a historical trend. Doubling chip complexity doubled computing power without significantly increasing cost. Some say Moore's law is dying or will soon not be true. Here's an article explaining this theory: [https://www.technologyreview.com/2020/02/24/905789/were-not-prepared-for-the-end-of-moores-law/] -
Affective Computing
Affective computing is the study and development of systems and devices that can recognize, interpret, process, and simulate human emotions. According to Rosalind Picard, if we want computers to be genuinely intelligent and to interact naturally with us, we must give computers the ability to recognize, understand, even to have and express emotions. Office Assistant "Clippy"
In 1997, Microsoft introduced its virtual assistant, Clippy, to users of Microsoft Office. The anthropomorphic paper clip would appear on-screen to help users carry out a number of tasks and provide advice.
Eventually, after coming to be loathed by many, Clippy suffered its ultimate blow and was killed off by Microsoft entirely in 2007. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mrcb5dJjACM] -
The Future of Healthcare
If you haven't seen the movie "Big Hero 6", you should give it a watch becuase it revolves around this idea of a heathcare robot, which I think is an AMAZING concept. "Baymax", the healthcare companion, is an amazing innovation that could soon be apart of our healthcare world. Take a look at this: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PMJRe_B2QQ] -
Holographic Travel & Transportation
What if you could travel across the world in a matter of seconds? Amazing right? "Holography" is the science and practice of making holograms. A hologram is a real world recording of an interference pattern which uses diffraction to reproduce a 3D light field, resulting in an image which still has the depth, parallax, and other properties of the original scene. Now image you, in the form of a hologram, somewhere in Paris sipping warm tea. Travel time: 10.32 seconds. How cool would that be?
