The cotton gin was invented by Eli Whitney. The invention is used to remove seeds from cotton. Before the cotton gin, it was very time consuming to remove the seeds from the cotton by hand. With the invention of the cotton gin, the speed of production for cotton was increased. This increased the amount of clothing that could be produced. -
The Iron Plow
The iron plow was invented by Jethro Wood. The plow is used to turn up soil. It makes it so that the seeds can be planted. The plow impacted people because it was able to decrease the time and effort needed to prepare the soil to plant seeds. This gave more time for people to work on other things and make more improvements. -
The Seed Planter
The seed planter was invented by Henry Blair in 1834. It was used to plant corn. This had a large impact on farmers at the time because it made there job so that it required less labor and took less time. This invention was very important because it made farming corn more efficient and lead to other inventions that made farming of other plants more efficient. -
The Grain Reaper
In 1834 the grain reaper was invented by Cyrus McCormick. The invention was used to harvest crops, like corn or wheat. It would cut and gather the crops. This impacted people, specifically farmers, because it decreased the amount of time and effort needed to harvest crops. This meant that farmers could create more food in a specific amount of time than they had been able to do before. This increased the overall food supply which was beneficial to the growing population. -
The Steel Plow
The steel plow was invented by John Deere in 1837. The steel plow was invented because other plows were not strong enough to break up soil. The steel plow was stronger than other plows and was able to break up tough soil and make planting more efficient. This was beneficial to the people and farmers at the time because it made it so that farming took less time and effort than it had in the past. -
The Corn Picker
The corn picker was invented in 1850 by Edmund Quincy. At the time it was powered by horses who pulled it. The corn picker cuts away grain and cobs of corn from the crops. It would leave behind approximately one foot of the stalk. This innovation made harvesting corn must faster. It left people with more time to do other things. It also allowed for people to move into cities and away from farms because the farmers were able to produce enough corn for everyone. -
