Son of portugal. Set up first European school for navigators in Sagres. Never sailed seas himself. Organized a way for others to learn the most skill way to sail. He gathered together Portuguese, Spanish, Jewish, Arab, and Italian mathematicians, chartmakers, astronomers, and sea captains. -

Bartolomeu Dias
Dias touched at several points on africa west coast before strong wind blew him southward. After the storm ended, Dias went on to reach africas tip of the continent. On the return home, Dias named what he now knew to be the southern tip of africa. During the conflict Dias accompanied Da gama. -

Like most other educated people of his time he belived the earth was round. Since he thought that he belived he could reach asia from sailing west. Got turned down from portugese, french, english monarchs. Finally in 1492 a queen of spain agreed to suport his voyage. -

In 1493 pope drew a papal line of demarcation, or an imaginary line from north pole to south pole. Some 300 miles, west of the Azores islands. Spain was to have none christian land west of the line. -

Pedro Cabral
Discovered brazil and sailed east to india. King John II of Portugal appoints Pedro Alvares Cabral leader of an expedition to sail for the Indies following the success of the Portuguese explorers Christopher Columbus, Vasco de Gama and Bartolomeu Dias - but the expedition sails West for the New World before heading for the Indies around the Cape of Good Hope. -

Ponce De Leon
Ponce De Leon organized an expedition to find the fountain in March of 1513. He landed near the site of what is now St. Augustine, Florida. He was the first European to explorer Florida. The next day he claimed the land in the name of the King of Spain. -

Vasco Nunez De Balboa
He explored the coast of modern Colombia, then settled in Hispaniola. Forced to flee creditors, he joined an expedition to assist a colony in Colombia. He persuaded the settlers to move across the Gulf of Urabá to Darién, where in 1511 they founded the first stable settlement on the South American continent. In 1513 he became the first European to see the Pacific Ocean and took possession of the Mar del Sur and adjacent lands for Spain. -

Hernan cortez invaded mexico with the help of guns and small pox. Destroyed the native americans empire ruled by the aztec king montezuma. Cortez and his troop took large amounts of gold from native americans to bring back to spain. -

Hired to find northwest passage. Sailed along atlantic coast from north carolina to new york. Italian navigator.
He sailed along the coast to Newfoundland, then returned to France. He later led expeditions to Brazil and to the Caribbean, where he was killed and eaten by cannibals. -

Alvar Nunez Cabeza De Vaca
After serving as a Mexican territorial governor, Cabeza de Vaca returned to Spain and published an account of his travels, noting the appalling treatment of Indians by the Spanish. His writing encouraged many other Spanish expeditions to the Americas, including those of Hernando de Soto and Francisco Vasquez de Coronado. -

French navigator and sailed up saint lawrence river as far as present day montreal. Fave canada its name. He was appointed by Francis I to explore North America, in an attempt to find a passage to the Pacific Ocean. On his first voyage he reached Newfoundland in 20 days, sighted the Magdalen Islands and Prince Edward Island. -

Jaun Rodriguez Cabrillo
Explored pacific coast to drakes bay near san francisco. Led the first European expedition to explore what is now the west coast of the United States. Cabrillo departed from the port of Navidad, Mexico. -

Sir Francis Drake
He was chosen by Queen Elizabeth I of England in 1577 to command a voyage around the world. Drake was already a successful privateer, and his voyage was designed to disrupt the command of the Pacific Ocean and the Americas enjoyed by England's rival Spain. -
John Davis
Explored the west coast of Greenland in search of north west passage. Davis crossed the Atlantic Ocean and combed the Canadian Arctic for a passage to Asia. On this voyage, Davis noted a large channel of water near the Labrador Sea. He named it the Furious Overfall because of its raging waters. -
Henry Hudson
Hired to locate passage. Explored hudson river. Sailed to what is know known as new york. Went on second voyage and became lost in storm. Never seen again.
