Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 in the Austrian town of Braunau am Inn. Although he was born in the town of Braunau am Inn, he was mostly raised in the Austrian town of Linz. Adolf Hitler Serves in WWI
Adolf Hitler moved to Munich, Germany in 1913 to avoid recruitment into the Austrian army. At the outbreak or begining of WWI, he applied to join the German army. (Alan Axelrod et al).Hitler served as a front line runner. During WWI, Hitler was decorated 4 times earning himself a Iron Cross 1st Class and a Black Wound Badge. His time during the war turned him into a German Nationalist and when Germany conceded, it just boosted his patriotism and passion. (biography.com) -
Mein Kampf Being Published
Hitler was sentenced to five years in prison due to treason. During this time, he wrote a book named "Mein Kampf", which described his future plans and political ideas. In his writings, it described and showed his hatred toward the Jews.(Giblin 47, 48, 49) He often refered to the Jews as parasites and liars. Hitler also stated how the Germans, or the Aryan race, is the supreme race and he believed that the Jews were of the lowest race class. (History.com) -
Hindenburg Appoints Adolf Hitler Chancellor or Germany.
President Hindenburg was scared by Hitler's growing popularity throughout Germany. The reasoning behind Adolf Hitler becoming popular was because of the frustration and the effects left behind in the defeat of the "Great War"(History.com). Former Chancellor Franz Van Papen persuaded Hindenburg, because of the argument with other non Nazis in government, they would be able to contain his anger and cruelty. Holocaust
The Holocaust is the mass murder of 6 million Jews by the Nazi Regime. Adolf Hitler believed that Germans or the Aryans are the supreme race and anything else was lower than them, especially the Jews. Hitler was convinced that the Jews were a threat towards racial purity.(History.com). Hitler's solution for the threat was to make camps that would imprison Jews. These camps were made to kill and torture anybody that is within in it. (Axelrod 138,139). -
The 21st Amendment
The 21st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution nullified the 18th Amendment, ending alcohol Prohibition. The 18th Amendment prohibited the manufacture, sale, or transportation of alcoholic beverages (nationalconstitutioncenter.org) Local police and federal agents had a difficult time enforcing the 18th Amendment. Organized crime thrived bootlegging alcohol. Prohibition failed to enforce sobriety and cost billions. In 1933, the 21st Amendment was passed ending Prohibition. (history.com) -
Hitler Becomes Fuhrer of Germany
Hitler became Fuhrer on August 2, 1934, the same date Franz von Papen died. Adolf Hitler was waiting for the day Franz von Papen died so he could gain complete and total control of Germany. In Germany, the economy began to rise and Adolf Hitler was gaining a lot of positive support and also gained a Cult that made propaganda for him (Giblin 50).With him having complete power over Germany, he had no one to control his anger and cruelty. J. Edgar Hoover appointed Director of the FBI
In 1935, J. Edgar Hoover was appointed the Director of the newly reorganized Federal Bureau of Investigation. Hoover is credited with building the FBI into a large crime-fighting agency and modernized police technologies, such as a centralized fingerprint and forensic laboratories (Biography.com). After his death, Hoover became a controversial figure because evidence of his secretive abuses of power began to surface and he was found to have exceeded the juristiction of the FBI. (history.com) -
AA was founded
Alcoholics Anonomous was started in Akron, Ohio by a stockbroker and a surgeon. The men began working with alcoholics in the area and saw the profound effect the alcoholics had on each other when trying to get sober (History.com). This was the start of the first AA meeting. The development of AA started forming all across the United States.

Golden Gate Bridge officially opens
In January 1933, construction began on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Fransico, CA. The bridge is a pure suspension bridge with a main span of 4200 ft connecting the San Fransico Peninsula with the southern end of Marin County (History.com). GM offers the Hydra-matic transmission
General Motors introduced the first fully automatic transmission, called the Hydra-matic, on the 1940 Oldsmobile. The Hydra-matic reduced the number of steps for starting your car: start engine, select direction, and step on the gas (History.com). It was designed to combine hydraulic opearion of a gearbox with the fluid coupling of a friction clutch. Operation Barbarossa
On June 22, 1941, Adolf Hitler launched a large invasion on the Soviet Union. This invasion spanned from North Cape to the Black Sea. In the begining of the invasion, the Germans went deep into Soviet territory until the winter where they were left with no supply drops or winter clothing.(Martin 218-226) Germany's failure was a very important turning point because it forced them to fight two head on wars.(Axelrod) -
Hitler declares war on the united States
On December 7,1941, Pearl Harbor was attacked by Japan and that was when Germany decided to declare war on the U.S. Hitler wanted to declare war on the U.S then because U.S was already attacking German ships.(History.com) The reason he helped Japan was because he believed when they beat the U.S they would help Germans against the Soviet Union.(Giblin 47,48,49). -
Cocoanut Grove Fire
The Cocoanut Grove was a nighclub/restaurant located in Boston, MA. On Nov. 28, 1942, a busboy lit a match to change a lightbulb and caught a palm tree on fire in the restaurant. A fireball of flame and toxic gas spread across the room (cocoanutgrovefire.org). Only a small number of people escaped before the revolving doors jammed trapping everyone else inside. 492 people died in the fire and this tragedy reformed the fire codes and building safety standards.. Nero Decree
On March 19, 1945, Adolf Hitler ordered the infastructure of Germany to be destroyed, or as it's also known as the "Nero Decree". Hitler commits suicide in Berlin
On April 30, 1945, Adolf Hitler committed suicide. Accompanied by his wife, Eva Braun and his dog. Hitler and his wife committed a double suicide by taking a cyanide capsule and shooting themsleves in the head. The reason for suicide was because the Russians were only 2 day away from capturing the chancellary. ( Giblin )
