The Sugar Act
In 1764 the Sugar Act was created. The Sugar act was where you had to pay a fee/tax if you wanted to buy sugar. The Minimum was 3 pence per pound. The colonist disliked this taxed act so they protested the "No taxation without representation". In 1765 the British Government had enough of the protest so they stopped the act. -
The Currency Act
In 1764, the Currency Act was created by the British Government. Preventing the colonies from printing their own money. Many of the colonists did not like this act because they could not print their own money. The government liked this act because had control over all currency in most of the colonies and was making a profit in the process. -
The Stamp Act
In 1765 shortly after the Sugar act had ended the British government created the Stamp act. It was where everything that you printed except for books had to have an official royal label. Stamp agents were sent out to collect taxes and to see if you had stamped on certain things, if you didn't you would be fined. If you were caught with a fake stamp then the penalty would be death. Just like the Sugar act they protested about it, it made the government feel like their rights were being abused. -
The Townshend Act
In 1767 the British government created the Townshend Act. This act was created to collect money from the colonists by adding taxes/fees on items that we shipped and not made locally. The colonist disliked this very much. The government continued to tax items of the colonists without their consent. -
The Tea Act
In 1773 the British Government created the Tea Act. The colonists were upset with all of the taxations. The colonist dislike this act so much that on December 16, 1773, 342 chests of tea were dumped into Boston Harbor by the Sons of Liberty group. The government got rid of the Tea Act since it left them with lots of debt.
