Abe was elected into congress in 1847. In congress he was known to always speak his oppinion . This characteristic got him the name "Honest Abe". -
House Devided Speech
This speech was part of Lincolns campaign against Douglas for Senator of Lillinois. The speech was consididered as a threat to salvery by the south because of Abe's famous quote, "A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure, permanently, half slave and half free." The south was highly opposed to this because they didnt want slavery to end -
Lincoln Loses Senator Spot
In 1858 Abe and Stephen Douglas got into a serise of debates to get the senator spot for Illinois. Abe was not as know as Douglas but the debates made him more known. This campaign really helped Lincoln win more votes during the presidential election. -
Elected as Presidential Canidate
Abe Lincoln was chosen as the presidential candidate to represent the Republican Party. This party wanted to end slavery in all new territories. The first candidate for this party, John c. Fremont, lost in the election of 1856. -
Abe wins First Election
This is Abes first presidential election. He is representing the republican. He is running against Brecenridge and Douglas. He won most of his votes in the north and won with 81.1% of votes. -
Inaguration as President
This was when Abe was officialy inducted as the President. This was argubly the spark of the civil war because the southern states were very opposed to Abraham being president. Many of the southern states seceded from the union and formed the Confederate States of America. -
Civil War Starts
The civil war started with the battle of fort Sumter. This was a very important fort for northern troops and it was attacked on April 12. This was a long four year battle with the most casualties of any war in the united states ever. -
Abe wins Re-Election
After the four year term, Abe was up for re-election. This time he was against his old general, McClellan. He was unpopular at first but after shermans victoriy at atlanta he gained the upper hand. -
Civil War Ends
This is the end of the civil war when the union army surrounded Richmond and went to the Appomatox to Make a treaty. Abe said that they should all be treated kindly because they are all american soldires. They all got 3 rations of food and got to keep their belongings as long as they surrendered their weapons. -
Abraham Licoln is Assasinated
On this day Abraham lincoln is assasinated by Jhon Willkes Booth. He was shot in the back of the head while he was watching a play. He was pronounced dead on April 15 1865 in washington D.C.
