Lincoln Became President
On November 6th. 1860, Abraham Lincoln became the 16th president of the United States of America. He is considered to be the first Republican to become president. He received only 40% of the popular vote, but he beat 3 other candidates. -
Lincoln Abolished Columbian Slavery
Lincoln signed an act that abolished slavery in the District of Columbia. It was “an important step in the long march towards freedom, citizenry, and equal rights for African-Americans”. -
Lincoln Issued Emancipation Proclamation
The Emancipation Proclamation was issued and approved by Lincoln on January 1st, 1863. It “threatened” to free all slaves in the United States. It freed all slaves in the Confederate States.

Lincoln Re-Elected
Lincoln was re-elected as president because he was nominated by the National Union Party. He won against George B. McClellan. He was the first president to be re-elected since 1832. -
Lincoln is Shot
On April 14th, 1865, Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth. Lincoln was watching a play at the Ford’s Theater in Washington D.C. Lincoln was the first American President to be assassinated. He was pronounced dead the next morning.
